Angela A. Chong (fka Angela A. Wu) is Of Counsel at Alley Law, assisting with representation of clients on all matters related to estate planning, probate, and trust administration. Angela graduated with a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A. magna cum laude in the Study of Religion and Government from Harvard College. She is admitted to practice law as an attorney in both California and Ohio.
In 2014, Angela was nominated by her local bar association and selected as the sole statewide recipient of the Ohio State Bar Foundation’s Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and Under. This honor was the culmination of nearly a decade of work that Angela performed through the non-profit, Oberlin Street Law, which she founded and directed in Oberlin, Ohio. Oberlin Street Law engaged members of the community in creative strategies to address issues and injustices, such as bullying, domestic violence, and home foreclosures. Angela began this work while litigating cases as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, then as general counsel at the Lorain County Department of Job and Family Services/Child Support Enforcement Agency, and finally at her own law practice. She also taught as faculty in the Politics Department of Oberlin College, and held the position of executive director of Zion Community Development Corporation. The most rewarding aspect of her time in Ohio was mentoring numerous young people who have often pointed to the transformative nature of their experience with Oberlin Street Law as a foundation for the work they currently do around the world related to justice on behalf of the poor and oppressed.
Now a California resident, Angela is mother of two small children. Raising a family has strengthened Angela’s commitment to financial stewardship as a cornerstone for fulfillment of one’s calling, especially in service of young people and the community. She enjoys her work in trusts and estates in large part because of how she is able to help clients move forward with confidence in a vision for their future. She and her family currently love to engage in mini adventures in music and food. As a Fulbright scholar to Hungary, Angela studied at the Kodály Institute of Music Pedagogy and later worked on litigation for the European Roma Rights Center in Budapest. She has a special place in her heart for Hungarian music and cuisine. But she is also right at home in the San Gabriel Valley, searching with her family for authentic experiences in Taiwanese food and culture.
